Community Projects

Kowanyama Hub QLD
Jabin’s in-house PM and design resources were engaged directly by the Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council to develop a business case including concept design for a Cultural Hub. The new building will be primarily used as a local disaster co-ordination centre (LDCC) serving as the planning centre for recovery efforts pre, during and post disaster events. During periods where disaster control/ mitigation actions are not required, it is anticipated that this space will serve as an Indigenous Knowledge Centre (IKC). The IKC is intended to house programs and activities associated with the documentation, maintenance and preservation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages and culture.

TCICA Disaster Resilience
Jabin is assisting the Torres Cape Indigenous Council Alliance (TCICA) with implementing the Cape and Torres Regional Resilience Strategy that aims to support TCICA Regional Councils to achieve a greater level of social and economic resilience. Jabin is working with Councils and all government stakeholders to coordinate the extensive field of resilience and add value to future planning needs. The project is funded by the Queensland Reconstruction Authority and the project includes 15 member local government Councils.

Nev House

The concept of NevHouse is to develop a sustainable, affordable and practical solution for housing to communities and other projects requiring robust shelter solutions.

Jabin is working in partnership with NevHouse to develop the overall structural and wall systems for their timber housing which are able to withstand Category 5 cyclonic winds and variable terrain conditions.
